"The daylights"

Well Good Morning :)

Honestly, I think sleep has been my own worst enemy lately. Previous to this week, I was attempting to go to sleep around 9pm every night lol. Yea, I was grouchier getting more and more sleep than less and les? Does that make sense? This week has been highly busy at work, and with life after work I've been back to hitting the pillow about 1am every night. Waking up at 5 or in today’s case 5:45am! It's the lifestyle I'm used to, so maybe that’s why I'm more comfortable being catatonic :)

Last night, my sister, Greg and myself all decided to head over to Croc Rock for a show. One Republic was playing. Now I've never been there, so I wasn't sure what to expect. They have a barrier that separates the "under 21" from over. It has its benefits and downfalls...but it was actually nice to be around respectful people that were there to enjoy the show. Doors opened at 7, we got there late...which was fine...but when we did arrive we found out no one even went on stage. Plus there were TWO openers now. Good lord. This was going to be a long night!!

The first band that took the stage was "The Daylights". Now, let me tell you, I've never been to a show where I could've left after the opening act and that would've made my night. Especially the FIRST opening act. They were from LA, and actually were a Rock Band. I didn't get a chance to meet them; I went over to the table RIGHT after their set and got their latest cd. I was a tad taken aback because it was surrounded by cardboard lol with a stamp on the front. Now that’s awesome! They had their other CD there, but apparently the material was from 3 years ago...I could only get one because I needed some gas money. So I got the newer one, and figured I could get the older one online. This is why people need wireless devices, you can find out this info right on the spot. None the less, I really didn't know what to expect and I thought they were great. When we got back to the jeep later on, I opened up my cardboard package and on the inside it said "Thanks for the gas in our van" then with a signature....LOL, well glad everyone had some gas money that night ;)

The next opener was Josh Kelley? Let's just say it was definitely not my scene. I thought he was trying to hard, and I'm not impressed by people like that. I'm sure he's a cool guy, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The great thing about Croc Rock we found out was there is a connection area that has pool tables and a bar so you can literally chill and go back whenever you wanted. I had enough after two songs...three is usually my limit when it comes to giving people a chance...but I really couldn't do it. Greg agreed, as well as my sister who started listening to her ipod! So off to the pool area we go, we're all Greg won was his food order ;) Got a text from my sis finally saying they were done, so back in we went. I wound up seeing a guy or two from One Republic, (who turned out to be in my eyes the most versatile fella I've seen with a cello) Of course the nice thing about seeing bands your unfamiliar with, you don't know who is who, and you don't have to deal with the "groupies" of the world attacking them when their & you are trying to relax.

There was a long wait between Josh and OneR, so much so, I was giving them until 10:15pm to go on, or we were all gonna bounce. Keep in mind that was around 9:30pm or so. Hey, we had work today! They came on shortly after 10:05, and I just thought...oh here we go again. Another "band". I will say I loved the instrumental behind each song, but personally the lead singer did nothing for me. In fact I loved him more when he was just chatting it up versus singing. He has a more "whiney" approach kind of like he was taking a card from coldplay's book. BTW for the record, I love coldplay, so the fact they couldn't pull it off was a bit much. After a few songs the show once again made a quick turn. We look up and all of a sudden this girl falls straight back to the floor. Keep in mind NO ONE is there to catch her, because the place was not packed, in fact I'd say only half was.

So Greg rushed off, and not knowing where he was headed, I went right into recovery mode. Jumped the barrier which was not easy to do....but when adrenaline is going thankfully you’re not thinking, and things happen. So I hopped over, she finally was coming to, and people were trying to get her up. Finally she stands up but you can tell she is still out of it. Her one friend was slurring so I can only imagine how much they drank, and the place was very hot. Greg came back, turns out he tried to go get some help, but the idiot behind the soundboard didn't care. Security eventually came and got her out.

The show went on, I heard the one song I wanted to, and shortly after we were all ready to go. We all talked about what we thought about the show, and "The Daylights" won all three of us over. I'm going to look into more about them today. They're going to be in NY and I believe one other venue before leaving the northeast this week, so maybe I can see em again.

On an off topic note, the jeep passed inspection! For those that are new to my world....but last car, the galant used to SUCK me DRY for every penny I had, and also for all the ones I wasn't going to have for weeks! So this was a very cool thing. 30.00 and I was done with my vehicle back :)

I think that's it for now, time to get some random things out of the way...but remember, if your going to drink and be a "rockstar" for the evening, follow your drinks with a few cups of water please.

Broken Record

I've never felt limited when it came to these blogs because when have I ever had a problem expressing my thoughts or reactions to a situation? At this point, I would love to rant and rave about a few things that happened today, but since "blogs" are now being held against people when it comes to things in the "real world"...then it's better I bite my tounge somewhat before I dig a hole bigger than I could imagine...which isn't that hard for me to do!

What I will talk about though is how sick it makes me that people think that it really matters if people think they are important or not. This is for those that have egos that are 100 feet in full diameter of their walking distance. The ones that do not contribute anything to this thing we call life, but think they are Gods gift to everyones life. As if things would stop rotating, or evolving otherwise.

I never realized how cloudy people's vision of the world could be. It's as if there is this heirarchy, and if you do the laundry, you could never amount to the "king". Let's keep it real, even being "queen" still isn't #1. The idea this concept even exists boggles my mind. When did life get so serious that saying hello became a chore or some given right that is only given to a "select few". Or dear God if you sat and at lunch with a complete stranger in a crowded cafe or mall. Oh, what would the world think of such craziness?!

I'm sorry, but I was raised to treat everyone the same. This concept may be lost in today's society, but people can read through the B.S. If your not real, the right ones won't buy into it. There are the few that limbo between the two worlds, and if anything I feel for those. The ones that lost sight of who they were along the way, or are too ashamed to admit they lost their way and can't find their way back. What is this showing the younger generations that follow? That it's ok to frown of those in "less settling careers"? At least those people still have the drive to do something with their life, rather than just giving up and complaining that the world is up against them.

I'm not mad, and I'm sorry if it comes off that way, but I am just disgusted that waving someone ahead of you is reason to jump out of your vechile and attack someone at a red light. This has never happened to me, but I've seen it happen before. If it was me, they would've met Mr.Door lol. Honestly, I'm not sure where this all came from....well, actually I have a pretty good idea, but like I said...I "must keep my peace"....cause dear lord if the perfect picture didn't exist for such a "community" of folks. All I can say is, you get what you give. This kinda wraps into what I wrote in my last entry. I just didn't realize I was letting these people steal as much of my joy as they were.

I'm done with this, and I'm done with them. I have far too much life to live, and to much joy to give then to fall into these petty traps. I don't owe anyone anything, and I'm not going to keep my thoughts silenced because of whats "right" and "wrong". Instead, I'll focus more on my praying through the day, and the ones that really matter will continue to see the truth, and the one's that don't care and are completely clouded by the fog...

well....I'll just pray for you.

;)

Please be kind, rewind.

Its 10pm on a Saturday and I'm passed out cold...who knows when i nodded off because I've been laying in bed ENJOYING my day of slackerism lol. I did go out twice very quickly, and then back in the bed I went. I learned a few months ago, that I need to accept my one day off, enjoy it, relax...and keep myself locked up like a hermit in order to do that. So I have...the past few weeks it hasn't happened...but today it did and I was glad. Gas is way to high to drive around for no reason anyways esp when you only get 17 miles to the gallon LOL. Believe me tho, I love my jeep, ya'll know that ;)

None the less. I get a call at 10pm from Chase telling me I have no life because I'm passed out this early on a saturday lol. I attempted to go back to sleep...but instead I check myspace, send a few emails out and now cannot get back to sleep. Thanks fooooool lol. So, now I figured I'd just write a quick blog, say whats up to my random readers...and hum along to the songs playing in the background as I type this out....currently, its Depeche Mode :)

Today, I spent a good part of the morning looking up Nashville information. I'm planning on doing a quick trip down there within the month to get some things sorted out. Greg may come to check things out with me which would be cool esp since we haven't seen each other in months. It's funny because I talk to my mom about it, and I still don't think its quite hit her yet? It's kinda like she believes it, and then doesn't. Maybe she doesn't want to think its happening as quick as it is....who knows...but it brings me to the point I am writing this thing out....

I've always been that kid who says what she wants and goes after it. OK, I know from past situations and such....sometimes I say things and then things don't work out in that direction. But the way I see it, at least I took a glance and something different. I love it when people say I can't do something or it won't happen. That only drives me more to want to accomplish what I want to accomplish, so keep saying it. I'll always have God in my ear telling me otherwise. So I decided that this year was going to be the year I was REALLY going to step out towards my career and take a do or die leap. Sure, it doesn't make sense to some...and a few still don't think it's happening...but I can assure you, even if I fall flat on my face, I'm going to get back up and keep walking. Cause thats what life is about.

I hear from my dad all the time about why I travel to go to these concerts and meet these people I want to meet. Well, first off, I love meeting people and networking...thats what the music industry is. But at the same time, I love helping out others and seeing their dreams come to pass. I've met some shady musicians, and then I've met some that would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. I prefer to meet those that relate to the latter of the 2. Music makes such an impact on peoples lives, that most people never realize how deep it really goes. I've been coming across some really amazing artists in the past few years, and the way I see it...if I can help them out, then I'm helping fulfill my dream as well. My goal is to have them succeed.

So right now I'm looking into promotions/marketing/PR. A lot of these people have the talent, it's just a matter of a solid fanbase/following. Thats one thing I learned about supporting LMP...not only was it exciting to see someone start their career from the ground up even tho they were already known...but she had the same issues that many local artists had. Your following can be the biggest driver in an artists career, and people bring people to gigs & music. I get no bigger "high" then being in a venue that is PACKED for a particular artist, that actually APPRECIATES what they bring to the table and has a FUN night. What tops that though is when supporters/fans actually get to meet the artist that they support. That usually means the most. Sure theres some random people out there...but in the same respect, artists need that feedback. Thats how much music impacts people's lives. Plus it helps the artist out when they have a crowd thats actually into it, and isn't just sitting there, gawking at them like "what do you have" for a hour or 2.

I went to the first jazz fest after Katrina back in 2006, and to see how much a community could come back together for so many random musicians, and have a amazing time it really hit. I think it hits more now as I look back on it, but it was something that touched not only my life, but all those that came out for those 2 weekends. We got to experience music from all different genres, everything from Jazz to hip hop, to rock and folk. I'm planning on going back this year as the lineup once again is amazing, but also to see my buddies that I haven't since then. I just love meeting new people, and seeing what I can do in their lives even if its as simple as just being there when they need to chat. You never know how much it means to touch someones life, even for a second. I say that to lead into this....

Maybe a post of 2 ago I wrote about helping a gentleman out after he flipped his car late at night...well, its been about 2 weeks now, maybe? today, I got a call on my blackberry. Of course since its the weekend, I didn't answer the work phone *see I am somewhat sane LOL*, but the caller did leave a voicemail. I checked it out, and it was actually the mother of the son I helped out. She basically called to say thank you, and to me, that really meant a lot. I forgot that I gave her my blackberry number, and the fact that she made a call still after everything happened....it makes things like that remind me of the type of person I am and who I want to stay. I was walking out to the bus stop at work and it was POURING rain out...there was a lady there who had a jacket on with a hood, but you could tell she was not that happy lol. I just got this umbrella from Bonnie, who got a gift package from our DC office. The umbrella was huge, so I just stopped for a few minutes, and decided to take the bus and wait with her. Next thing I know, a guy out of nowhere jumped under and now we're all standing there LOL. She said a really nice comment, and this is actually happening a lot now...the point is, I'm just doing these simple things because God tells me to, and I know it's the right thing to do. In turn, I have a better day, and I'm sure it gives them some acknowledgment that there are actually still "kind souls" in the world as one person put it.

I think this world has become to focused on "what's in it for me" mentality, that people forgot that being nice not only makes you feel good...but it's the right thing to do. Maybe then some people would actually be HAPPY for once, instead of always grumpy. Some of my days at work have me all over the place...ok, a lot of my days are like that...but I came to the realization yesterday that I've been doing my job for about a year and a half now, and it feels like I just started a few months ago. I felt like at BM I worked there 2 lifetimes LOL. But its all about how you look at things. So even if your day feels like its going downhill, and theres nowhere to turn...do something nice for someone else, even if it seems like the smallest thing in the world...it'll help you AND them out.

Trust me, people notice the small things.
